The Joy Luck Club

The goal:

Completely redesign the interiors and exteriors of The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan

My role:

Ideated, designed, and illustrated the book jacket and interiors.

How I did it:

I went for the approach of using the color red, which in Chinese culture represents joy and luck, creating a visual association with the title of the book. The use of the dragon, a Chinese symbol for bravery and strength, was to pay homage to the mothers and their lives before immigrating to America.
